Dear Retirees and Beneficiaries,
Saturday night Station 1 responded to an alarm at the Charlotte National Building where our office is located. Someone vandalized the building by opening the emergency water valves located in the stairways on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor. Our office is below and next to these valves. This action flooded the office above our office, our office and the offices below us on the first floor closest to the 4th St side of the building.
First, we are very grateful to the crew of Station 1 for protecting important documents and items in the CFRS office. This crew was our light in our darkest hour, literally. Thank you CFD!!
Second, please note that we are displaced for an unknown period of time. This displacement will be on a day-to-day basis over the next few weeks as we navigate the cleanup process, demolition and rebuild.
Staff will be working from home until further notice. If you need to get anything to us physically, please let us know and we’ll work out an arrangement to assist you. We have internet and email access but our server for our network files has yet to be evaluated. Please expect a delay in any of your requests but know that you and the active members are our first priority and we’re making every effort to conduct business as usual.
Due to the damage at the office, the Benefits Committee has been cancelled for this Thursday. The Investment Committee that is scheduled for next week most likely will be cancelled. The April Board meeting scheduled for the end of April has been postponed. Please watch for updates to these meetings as they become available.
Thank you for your patience during this challenging time for us.
